| "We profess to be strangers and pilgrims, seeking after a country of our own, yet we settle down in the most un-stranger-like fashion, exactly as if we were quite at home and meant to stay as long as we could. I don't wonder apostolic miracles have died. Apostolic living certainly has." - Amy | | |
| Just a bit of the 2007 resolved... something that S.Lawson read at the end of his sermon... enjoy!
“I am a disciple.” The dye has been cast; I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made; I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I will not look up, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, love by patience, lift by prayer, and labor by power. My
pace is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my
way is rough, my companions few, my guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, deterred, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice; I will not hesitate in the presence of adversity. I
will not negotiate at the table of the enemy, I will not ponder in the
pool of popularity, nor meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will
not give up, back up, let up or shut up until I have prayer up,
preached up, stored up, and stayed up at the cost of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I must go until He returns, give until I drop, preach until all know, and work until He comes. And
when HE comes to get HIS own, He will have no trouble recognizing me;
my colors are flying high and they are clear for all to see.
Are you a disciple of Jesus Christ? It will cost you everything.

| ibc retreat 2007 some highlights. "the greatest temptation that I have in life is to approach this book [the Bible] professionally... as an object that I deal with in life; to not be personally involved, to just 'audit' the course instead of taking it for credit." ~Varner "you can say that you heard a good sermon, but have you lived a good sermon?" ~Varner You can control your anger if you want to... "I stop and taste my words before they pass my teeth." ~anon. In your daily planner, note at the bottom "D.V." meaning "God willing" and know that you can put an "Amen" after it. [Instead, you outh to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." ~James 4:15] blessings. rooming with sheila; the msgs from Dr. Varner; late night jam sessions with Sheila, Connie, MattT, Marie, Anastasia, and Tiff; reading; conversation with may at the park; grabbing pho with the group saturday; watching sarah learn how to play poker; pondering why I do what I do. in reading. -"How much happier you would be if you only knew that these people cared nothing about you! How much larger your life would be if your self could become smaller in it; if you could really look at other men with common curiosity and pleasure; if you could see them walking as they are in their sunny selfishness and their virile indifference! You would begin to be interested in them because they were not interested in you. You would break out of this tiny and tawdry theater in which your own little plot is always being played, and you would find yourself under a freer sky, in a street full of splendid strangers." ~G.K. Chesterton -"I shall not demean my own uniqueness by envy of others. I shall stop boring into myself to discover what psychological or social categories I might belong to. Mostly, I shall simply forget about myself and do my work." ~Clyde Kilby
